Responsibilities

The Senior AV Technician is responsible for installing, configuring, integrating, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting audiovisual systems in support of classroom, conference, broadcast, and specialized media environments. This role provides advanced technical expertise in the field, supports successful system deployment and acceptance, and serves as a senior team member who helps guide junior technicians, resolve complex issues, and maintain high standards of quality and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced installation, mounting, termination, labeling, and dressing of AV equipment, cabling, racks, displays, speakers, cameras, control components, and supporting hardware.
  • Configure, integrate, and validate audiovisual, control, DSP, and network-connected AV systems in accordance with approved designs and technical baselines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex installation and integration issues with minimal supervision.
  • Review drawings, signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, equipment lists, and installation documentation to ensure accurate field execution.
  • Perform cable certification, functional verification, system checkout, and support acceptance testing activities.
  • Maintain accurate redline markups, equipment records, cable labels, configuration details, and as-built documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical guidance and on-the-job support to junior technicians and installers.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, programmers, and site stakeholders to resolve technical issues and support project milestones.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, security, quality, and industry standards during installation and testing activities.

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent related experience or at least two (2) years of telecommunications/electronics vocational training, professional certification from an accredited technical school or equivalent military school
  • 10 years of experience required
  • Significant experience installing and supporting audiovisual systems in commercial, educational, government, or enterprise environments.
  • Strong knowledge of AV installation practices, including cabling, terminations, equipment mounting, rack buildout, labeling, system checkout, and acceptance support.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, equipment lists, and installation documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with AV control systems, DSPs, networked AV devices, and related hardware platforms.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify, isolate, and resolve technical issues independently in the field.
  • Ability to document completed work accurately, including redlines, configuration information, test results, and turnover records.
  • Ability to mentor junior technicians and provide technical guidance during installation and integration activities.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment, work on ladders or lifts when required, and perform installation tasks in active construction or operational environments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist – Installation (CTS-I), CTS, or comparable industry credential.
  • Manufacturer certifications for platforms such as Crestron, Extron, AMX, Q-SYS, Biamp, Dante, or similar technologies.
  • Experience serving as a senior AV technician, advanced installer, or technical specialist on medium- to large-scale deployment projects.
  • Experience supporting broadcast, classroom modernization, conference room, command center, or mission-critical media environments.
  • Familiarity with structured cabling standards, systems acceptance processes, and quality management practices.

 

Work Environment:

This position may require work in classrooms, conference rooms, studios, control rooms, equipment rooms, and other customer or construction environments. The Senior AV Technician must be comfortable performing advanced field installation and troubleshooting activities, working with hand and power tools, transporting equipment, and collaborating with cross-functional technical teams to meet project milestones and acceptance requirements.
